LA
SEU (PALMA CATHEDRAL) This impressive 13th century cathedral towering over the seafront and the old city walls, is undoubtedly Palma’s most famous landmark. Built on the site of a Moorish mosque by Jaume I in 1230, the Gothic cathedral was restored by Antoni Gaudí in the 20th century. Its beautiful stained glass rose windows measuring 12m across are the largest in the world. The sea facing front features the Portal del Miarador, a 15th century door with scenes from the last supper. |

BELLVER
CASTLE (CASTELL DE BELLVER) This entirely round hilltop fortress has been overlooking Palma Bay for more than 700 years. Once the summer residence of the Mallorcan royal family, the castle today is the home of Palma’s Municipal Museum with displays of archaeological artefacts and old coins. It is also the venue for evening concerts in July and August. The castle offers stunning views over Palma Bay - ‘Bellver’ itself means ‘lovely view’ in Catalan. It is approximately 3km east from Palma city centre, but can be easily reached by car, taxi or bus which stops at Plaça Gomila. A short climb up through the pine woods will take you to the castle. |

PALAU
DE L’ALMUDAINA Adjacent to the cathedral is Palau de L’Almudaina, a royal palace erected by the Moors in the 10th century and later converted into Gothic style by Jaume II in the 13th century. Inside the palace you will find beautiful Flemish Gobelin tapestries and works of art. The palace is still used by King Carlos for official functions in Palma. The surrounding S’Hort del Rei gardens offer great views of Palma harbour and can be enjoyed free of charge. |
