THE HOUSE
Los Robles (Spanish for ‘The Oaks’) is surrounded by over an acre of private land which is mainly mature oak and chestnut woodland. A 50-yard private drive leads up to the house from a quiet road. Outside, guests have a choice of peaceful shaded and sunny seating and eating areas where they can enjoy the superb views of the countryside and the mountains of the Redes National Park.
The house has a fully-equipped kitchen/diner (including gas hob and electric oven, fridge/freezer and microwave), a lounge with large corner sofa; large wood fire (with firewood available on site); TV, video and DVD/CD player, a modern bathroom, and an outside utility room containing a washing machine, BBQ, sun-lounger and recliner. Sleeping accommodation is provided for up to five people in two bedrooms, we also have a travel cot for babies. One with a double bed and the other with full-size bunk beds and a single bed. Bedding and towels are included in the rental. Organic fruit and vegetables are often available from the garden.
THE LOCATION
Los Robles is a 2 mile drive from the small town of Blimea in the protected area of the Nalón valley, (indicated by an arrow on the map of the area below). The house is approximately a forty-five-minute drive from Asturias airport. Blimea's amenities include a rail service to the region’s main cities as well as a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants. Centrally located in Asturias it is an ideal base for those wishing to explore the region or for those just wishing to get away from it all and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. |

WHAT THE REGION OFFERS
Almost a third of Asturias has been declared a protected natural space of special interest and has for many years been a favourite destination for Spanish Tourists. The region is famed for its rich green landscapes, imposing peaks and rugged coastline, only thirty miles separate the coast and the mountains.
The striking landscape of REDES NATIONAL PARK (only 6 miles from Blimea), with its impressive mountains, lakes, woods, meadows and traditional Asturian villages, covers area of over 370 square kilometres and provides an ideal area for outdoor activities such as walking, rambling, climbing, bird-watching or just exploring and picnicking. It’s also an ideal area for landscape and wildlife photography.
There are also great country and hill walks available directly from Los Robles (no need to drive).
With its wide variety of flora and fauna the area is perfect for nature lovers. Bird watchers are in for a particular treat with a numerous birds of prey to be observed. Lakeside and estuary reserves are home to a large variety of water fowl.
The Asturian capital OVIEDO is well worth a visit for its architecture, cultural activities and excellent shopping. The city is about half an hour’s drive away from Blimea. The coastal city of GIJON has excellent beaches, a large market on Sundays, an aquariuum, botanic gardens and a good selection of shops, bars and reasonably priced seafood restaurants and is reachable within 40 minutes.
The Asturian coastline, the Costa Verde, is both rugged and beautiful with many beaches ranging from small secluded coves to large surf beaches. There are numerous picturesque fishing villages dotted along the coast. The coast reminds us very much of the West Country, only with better weather and fewer tourists (plus the restaurants are much cheaper!).
Day trips are also possible to the PICOS DE EUROPA, the Somiedo and Peña Ubina National Parks and the nature reserves of the Villaviciosa Estuary and Peloño. The ski resorts of San Isidro and Pajares can be reached within 45 minutes. The city of LEON, home to several Gothic and Romanesque monuments and capital of Spain during the ‘reconquest’ period, is accessible in about 90 minutes, either on the motorway or by a more leisurely and scenic drive over the mountains. |
